Biography

There is little biographical information found about Max Weinberg. The information below is based on information found in the collection. Max Weinberg was born sometime around the 1920s. He began his career in motion pictures in the 1930s, when he became the managing director for The Little Theatre in Baltimore; he created the ad/publicity campaigns for important foreign films shown at the theater. After about 10 years, he moved to New York and worked for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as the Eastern Short Subjects Representative, responsible for production involving film shorts east of Chicago. When that department closed, Weinberg became a dubbing writer and producer for the foreign film department, translating French, Italian, and German films into English.
In 1956, Weinberg was hired by United Artists and sent to Hollywood to write and produce movie trailers for their films; he remained with UA for about 15 years before becoming a freelance writer/producer of trailers and other spots. In 1971, he decided to go independent. He worked for companies such as American International Pictures, Columbia, Fox, Disney, and Paramount, as well as many other independent studios. Among his motion picture trailer credits are films made by Stanley Kramer, Ralph Nelson, Walter Mirisch, Jean Renoir, Mark Robson, and William Wyler and include trailers for: The Apartment, The Defiant, Exodus, Hawaii, Irma La Duce, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, West Side Story, and more.
