Description
The David Lehrer papers hold personal and professional material created and collected by David A. Lehrer (1948-2023). Lehrer was a leader in Los Angeles' Jewish community, a civil rights attorney who helped draft California's hate crime laws, a regional director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and a co-founder of the nonprofit organization Community Advocates Inc. The collection includes Lehrer's personal and professional correspondence, drafts and published copies of articles written by Lehrer, speech notes, programs relating to ADL events and other proceedings, newspaper clippings, photographs, ADL publications and ephemera, and polling data and research material relating to antisemitism. Lehrer's papers also hold audiovisual material, including audio cassette tapes, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes, with recordings of public talks and radio broadcasts relating to Lehrer's work. Some of the audiovisual material documents Lehrer's appearance(s) on "Kitchen Table Talk" segments of KCET's Life & Times television series.
