    Abstract: The items that comprise this collection are interviews that Richie Unterberger conducted in support of his many books, articles, and liner notes. The interviews primarily cover rock music of the 1960s and 1970s.

    The Richie Unterberger Collection was donated to the Archive of Recorded Sound by Richie Unterberger in 2011.

    Biographical / Historical

    Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books, including "Unknown Legends of Rock'n'Roll" and a history of 1960s folk-rock, "Jingle Jangle Morning." His book "The Unreleased Beatles: Music and Film" won a 2007 Association for Recorded Sound Collections Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. His other books include "White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-By-Day" and "Won't Get Fooled Again: The Who from Lifehouse to Quadrophenia." He gives regular presentations on rock and soul history throughout the Bay Area incorporating rare vintage film clips and audio recordings, at public libraries and other venues. He teaches courses on rock history at the University of San Francisco-affiliated Fromm Institute, the College of Marin, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute branches in San Francisco, San Rafael, Berkeley, and Santa Clara. He has also written several hundred liner notes for reissues on various labels, including Rhino, Universal, Collectors' Choice, and Real Gone Music.

    Scope and contents

    The Richie Unterberger collection consists of audio cassette recordings and electronic documents comprised of cassette interview transcripts and email interviews. The interviewees include pop culture musicians, managers, music producers, record executives, and journalists. These interviews are source material for many of Mr. Unterberger's books including "Unknown legends of Rock 'n' roll", "White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-By-Day", "Turn! Turn! Turn!: The 60s Folk-Rock Revolution" and others.
