Abstract: Wallace “Wally” R. Wiberg worked for Convair as an engineer. He then went on to many other aerospace firms.
Biographical / Historical
Wallace “Wally” R. Wiberg worked for Convair as an engineer. He then went on to many other aerospace firms. He married June
Wiberg, and became the proud owner of a Screaming Wiener to which he renamed Li’l Dogie (per June’s request). Wally made major
modifications to the glider by changing the turtle deck and adding a large bubble canopy that resembles a modified form of
a Bell helicopter. Wally flew the ship between 1952 and 1954 and logged more hours in it than any other pilot. In 1963 the
plane was put into dry storage in San Diego, CA. Wally then donated the ship to the San Diego Aerospace Museum after the 1978
Museum fire that destroyed most of its aircraft collection. The staff there repainted it in the Li'l Dogie’s present cream
and red scheme, but the museum decided not to use it, and the Dogie was sold soon after.

The collection is open to research by appointment.

The collection was donated to the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
Scope and Contents
This is a three box collection; two boxes have dimensions 15 ¼ x 10 ½ x 5 inches and the third box is 15 ¼ x 10 ½ x 2 ½ inches.
It contains many technical reports, regulation papers, industrial notes, investigations and analyses, books, blueprints, a
maintenance record log, and around 350 photographs, as well as one negative. This is a mixed collection of technical and aerospace
industry reports on gliders and aircraft materials, as well as Wiberg’s personal interest in Glider planes – especially the
Screamin’ Wiener.
There is a pie circle template from Rohr Industries Inc. that is stored in the Oversized Material Special Collection, OMSC_00001.

Physical Description: This folder contains an Aircraft Log and Maintenance Record Type SD-A. It contains the record of Leister Kauffmann LK-10A
(Glider Sailplane), owned by Wallace R. Wiberg. It dates from June 26, 1945 to April 18, 1948.
