This collection contains 170 photographs related to early California photographers E. J. Hayward and Henry Muzzall and consists chiefly of stereograph views of the Santa Barbara, California, region by Hayward & Muzzall, dating from the early 1870s to the mid 1880s, as well as additional family photographs dating from 1862 to 1894.
Background
The Santa Barbara photography firm of Hayward & Muzzall was composed of photographers E. J. Hayward (1837-1911) and Henry W. Muzzall (1844-1924). Hayward and Muzzall operated as a partnership from around 1874 to 1883 and primarily produced stereoviews, portraits, and landscapes of Santa Barbara, California, and the vicinity.

170 photographs in 2 boxes : albumen prints on card mounts ; chiefly 8.7 x 17.6 cm (stereograph format)
