Abstract: This collection contains reports, correspondence, minutes and other material which originated with or were transmitted to
the University of California Riverside College of Letters & Science in the early years of UCR (1954-1969). Annual Reports
of the various departments as well as minutes of Faculty meetings and of the Executive Committee are featured.
The collection also includes a later accrual from the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) Dean's Office,
which consists of trophies, plaques and medals commemorating UCR's participation in the City of Riverisde's Corporate Games.

Collection Scope and Contents
The first five series of this collection contain reports, correspondence, minutes and other material which originated with
or were transmitted to the University of California Riverside College of Letters & Science in the early years of UCR (1954-1969).
Annual Reports of the various departments as well as minutes of Faculty Committee meetings and of the Executive Committee
are featured.
The collection also includes a later accrual from the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) Dean's Office,
which consists of trophies, plaques and medals commemorating UCR's participation in the City of Riverisde's Corporate Games.
Note: the College of Letters & Science at the University of California, Riverside was eventually renamed the College of Humanities,
Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS). The bulk of this collection is comprised of documents from early years of UCR's history,
when the division was known as the College of Letters & Science. The collection title reflects the current name of the college
despite the fact that only materials in Accrual 1: Realia originated from the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
(CHASS).

Series Scope and Content
This series includes documents related to the dedication of the University of California, Riverside's College of Letters and
Science in 1954. It includes official congratulatory letters sent by other colleges and universities as well as the transcripts
for various addresses given at the dedication ceremony. Addresses were given by Charles Young, then President of the Associated
Students of UCR; Deane W. Malott, President of Cornell University; President of UCR, Robert Gordon Sproul; Governor Goodwin
J. Knight; and Edward A. Dickson, Chairman of the Board of Regents.
