Abstract: The collection includes scrapbooks
belonging to Pomona College students and alumni, as well as those for which the creator
and/or origin is unknown. The scrapbooks and photo albums contain clippings, photographs,
programs, invitations, illustrations, correspondence, and ephemera related to Pomona College
people and events from 1887 to 1986.

Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Pomona College Scrapbook and Photograph Album Collection is an artificial collection of
scrapbooks and albums belonging to Pomona College students and alumni, as well as those for
which the creator and/or origin is unknown. Spanning from 1897 to 1986, the scrapbooks and
photo albums were created contain clippings, photographs, programs, invitations,
illustrations, correspondence, and ephemera related to Pomona College people and events as
well as off campus activities in Claremont and the southern California area. In some cases,
people and places in the photographs are unidentified. Also included are "Class Year"
scrapbooks, which were created by an elected class historian and document four years of
activities and events at the College. The collection is current and is still accruing
materials. New materials will be added as acquired.

This two volume photograph album was created by George Hitchcock, first Professor of
Physics and Chemistry at Pomona College. The albums contain photographs of the Pomona
College campus, faculty, and students. Individuals and locations are identified.

The creator of this photograph album is unknown; the book is named after its donor. The
album contains cyanotypes and other photographs of students, student performances, the
class of 1910, campus buildings, and athletic events. There are also photographs of
individuals visiting Long Beach and Mission San Gabriel. The photographs are not
identified or dated.

Llewellyn Bixby graduated from Pomona College in 1901. His photograph album contains
photographs of Pomona students and faculty, campus scenes, events (such as the 1898
through 1902 commencements), and athletic teams. Most of the photographs are labeled and

The creator of this photograph album is unknown. The first part of the album contains
photographs of the Pomona College campus, portraits of Pomona College faculty, students,
and administration, and student activities, such as performances, track meets, and the
pole rush. The latter part of the scrapbook contains photographs of family and friends,
not necessarily associated with Pomona College. There are few annotations.
