Scope and Content of Collection

Certificates of Tax Sales to State of California (1891-1892) comprises ledgers and receipts that document the sale of real property as ordered by the court to recover overdue property taxes, under Section 3778 of the Political Code, which no longer exists. Each certificate includes the name(s) of the property owner(s) (assessed to), a description of the real property, the date of the court-ordered sale, and the monetary amount required for the redemption of the property. Some certificates also include additional information, such as the date the notice was served or filed, supplementary financial assessments like penalties and interest, and indications of property redemption accompanied by name(s) and redemption date(s). Certificates are arranged by certificate number.
