Biography / Administrative History
George Moscone was born in San Francisco in 1929 and grew up in the
predominantly Italian neighborhood of Marina, west of North Beach. Raised as a
Catholic, he attended St. Ignatius High School where he played basketball and
graduated in 1947. He attended the College of the Pacific (now University of
the Pacific), graduated in 1953, and went on to receive his law degree from
U.C. Hastings in 1956. After serving in the Navy he started a private law
practice in San Francisco by the name of Morgan and Moscone. He served on the
San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1963 to 1966 and in the California
State Senate from 1967 to 1976. George Moscone attempted to run for Governor in
1974 but never officially announced his bid, instead withdrawing before the
Democratic primary. He was elected Mayor of San Francisco in December of 1975
and served from 1976 until his assassination in November of 1978.

Francisco, spanning the years of 1967-1978, but contains five series.
