Description
The Academy Awards Show photographs span the years 1929-2012 and encompass approximately 88 linear
feet. The collection consists of photographic prints, negatives, transparencies, slides, and digital
images, and generally covers any activities that occurred the day of the Academy Awards show, including
the ceremony itself.
Background
Founded in 1927 by 36 of the most influential men and women in the motion picture industry at the
time, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is an honorary membership organization whose ranks
now include more than 6,000 artists and professionals working in cinema. It presents the Academy Awards,
golden statuettes awarded annually for notable achievement in motion pictures.

Property rights to the physical object belong to the Margaret Herrick Library. Researchers are
