Biographical / Historical

Alan Bagley was a longtime Hewlett-Packard engineer and manager.
Alan Bagley was born in Pasadena, California on January 8, 1924 and grew up in Twentynine Palms. Bagley served in the Air Force during World War II. He received a BSEE degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1948 and an MSEE degree from Stanford University in 1949. He was an HP Fellow while at Stanford and was hired by HP after graduation. Bagley worked as a development engineer, engineering group leader, manager and general manager. He was involved in the development of the HP524 series counters, the Cesium Standard 'Atomic' Clock and was the general manager of the Frequency of Time Division and the Santa Clara Division. In 1976 Bagley was promoted to Corporate Engineering Manager. He retired in 1986.
Bagley was involved with the Institute of Radio Engineers, the Los Altos History Museum, and served on the board of the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) Institute.
Bagley died on June 24, 2018.
