Content Description

This collection contains correspondence written by Maj. Allen M. Boyden, USA, his wife Margery, and his parents Dr. and Mrs. Frank E. Boyden dated between 1942 and 1945. MAJ Boyden was a member of the 3rd Aux. Surgical Group in the United States Army. He wrote letters from San Francisco and New York, and then overseas from Sicily, North Africa, England, Belgium, France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He was present at D-Day where he performed some of the first surgeries on Omaha beach. MAJ Boyden was also present during the Battle of the Bulge, and eventually made his way into Germany with allied forces where he witnessed two different concentration camps. He continued to perform surgeries on the front lines until the end of the Second World War.
