Abstract: This collection contains a letter Gary McDonald wrote to his mother in 1962 and a souvenir booklet from a production of The
Wizard of Oz, which was staged as a benefit for Operation Concern in August 1975. McDonald came to San Francisco in 1963 and
lived in the city most of his adult life, until he died in 1986. He was involved with the Tavern Guild, the Community Softball
League and the Imperial Court and was an early director of Operation Concern. The letter was McDonald’s attempt to reconcile
with his mother after a year’s absence.

Scope and Content of Collection
This collection contains a letter Gary McDonald wrote to his mother in 1962 and a souvenir booklet from a production of The
Wizard of Oz, which was staged as a benefit for Operation Concern in August 1975. McDonald came to San Francisco in 1963 and
lived in the city most of his adult life, until he died in 1986. He was involved with the Tavern Guild, the Community Softball

with his mother after a year’s absence. These materials were collected by McDonald’s younger sister, Sandra, and the collection
includes her description of them.
