Content Description

The Thomas Q. Reefe papers are the materials from a research project entitled "Does God speak to the Ngumba? Church, language and ethnicity in the forest of Cameroon" conducted at various times from 1982 to 1984 in Cameroon and the United States. The materials include published materials, field notes, field recordings, microfilms, photographs, research notes, bibliography lists, photograph postcards, 12 audio cassettes, and 5 microfilm reels.

Biographical / Historical

Thomas Q. Reefe is a community organizer, author and professor. In the 1960s, while in the Army Reserves, Reefe joined the anti-war movement. Upon completing his service in Vietnam he got his Phd in African History from the University of California, Berkeley and did field work in Cameroon. He taught History at the University of North Carolina before becoming the Director of Career Services at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He was also involved with a variety of community organizations in Santa Cruz including Leadership Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz Foster Grandparents.
