General
The Mount Zion Training School for Nurses opened in 1897. In 1925, a separate residence for nurses was opened at 2311 Sutter
Street. The nursing program closed after the last class graduated in June of 1964. The building continued to be used by the
hospital until it was severely damaged in the October 17, 1989 earthquake and subsequently torn down. The front doors to the
building were salvaged and now form the entrance to the Meditation Room in the lobby of 1600 Divisadero.
