Content Description

This collection is comprised of four sheets of paper including pencil drawings by Corporal Robert T. Hawk. He drew these during his service in the United States Army between 1943 to 1945. There are two separate portraits of United States soldiers. Another sheet of drawings includes a soldier firing his rife, and two marksmanship badges including Carbine 30 Cal. M.G. and Rifle Pistol T.S.M.G. Additionally, there is drawing of the United States Amry's military insignias made up of, infantry, cavalry, armored force, signal corps, engineers, medics, air crops, and ordinance.

Biographical / Historical

Corporal Robert T. Hawk was born on October 31, 1942, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Bradford, Pennsylvania, and worked as a farm laborer as well as attending school. Hawk enlisted at the age of eighteen, on March 16, 1943. Hawk's headstone says he served in Company A, 489th Ordnance Evacuation Company, 37th Tank Division, although the donor said he served in the 4th Armored Division, 489th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion (Self-Propelled). Corporal Robert T. Hawk died on April 11, 1945, at the age of 20 in Luxembourg; most likely in the Battle of the Bulge. Hawk is buried at the Union Dale Cemetery in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
