Edward Leodore Mayberry was born on September 18, 1871. He attended the University of Southern California where he studied
architecture. Out of school in 1890, he began work at Shoder-Johnston & Co. After two years of employment there, Mayberry
left to go back to school to study engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1902. He graduated in 1906
with a bachelor’s degree in structural engineering. Mayberry returned to Los Angeles where he worked as a designing engineer
for Carl Leonardt. In 1907, Mayberry formed a partnership with architect Llewellyn Adelbert Parker. That firm dissolved and
Mayberry formed another partnership with architect William Horace Austin before relocating to Santa Barbara circa 1922. In
Santa Barbara, Mayberry opened his own firm. Edward Leodore Mayberry died in 1957, at the age of 86.
The E. L. Mayberry drawing of the Faulding Hotel spans three linear feet and dates from circa 1926. The collection consists
of one blueprint of the front elevation of the hotel with the word “void” written over the drawing in orange color pencil.
