Scope and Contents

A small collection of photographs and printed items document Don's Drugs, a small business at the corner of 16th and Jay Streets, in Modesto, California, from 1938-1946. The collection includes: a black-paper photoalbum, in black wrappers titled "Photographs", with 18 mounted black and white snapshots; a bank commercial deposits ledger (1938-1940); applications and business license registrations (1944-1946); a photograph of a woman preparing a window advertising display (1944, dated according to the current magazines on display); and an undated street view RPPC (real photo postcard; addressed and stamped but uncanceled) of the business. The photoalbum includes interior views of the pharmacy counters, window advertising displays, and one photograph of a man--Don, presumably--standing in the entrance doorway. The photoalbum is dated to May 1938 based on the issue of "Pictorial Review" magazine shown in a display rack.
