Scope and Contents

The collection consists of Dr. Mark Swerdlow's autobiographical statement and curriculum vitae; an incomplete selection of reprints of publications; programs, reports, transcripts and articles of pain symposia; and information about professional societies devoted to pain research and treatment. Highlights include: constitution, membership lists, correspondence and several meeting programs for the Intractable Pain Society of Great Britain and Ireland (IPS) and the British and Irish chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) (1972-1986); documents about the World Health Organization's (WHO) Pain Relief Programme (1981-1986); and research about the history of pain clinics (1984-1993).
