The Southern California Social Science
Association (SCSSA) membership consists of elementary, middle and high school social science
educators who teach subjects such as anthropology, economics, geography, history,
philosophy, and sociology. The major activity of SCSSA has been to organize annual
conferences and one-day workshops to acquaint teachers with the latest trends in social
science theory, and to provide new methods and formats for teaching their various subject
fields.
Background
Formed in 1911, the Southern California Social Science Association (SCSSA) disseminates
information about the teaching of social science classes to advance popular education, and
to provide an effective professional network among social studies teachers. Membership in
SCSSA consists of elementary, middle and high school social science educators who teach such
subjects as anthropology, economics, geography, history, philosophy and sociology.
