Abstract: This is a single format collection of photographic prints covering the career of Carl O. Wilson as both a teacher and principal in the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD). Baker School (1980-1983), Argonaut School (1963-1967), Theodore Judah School (1968-1979) and Maple School (1955-1965).

    Biographical / Historical

Carl Oscar Wilson was born in Liberty, Missouri, on July 9, 1924, but he spent most of his formative years in Blythe, Riverside County, California. Although drawn to both music and aviation in his youth, Wilson went on to pursue a degree in education at San Jose State College which led to six years of teaching art, music and upper grades in the SCUSD, and then the next 31 as a principal in the same district. Settling in in Elk Grove in 1949, Wilson and his wife, Barbara, raised five children. He passed away on July 9, 2008. Wilson spent time as an administrator and/or teacher at several SCUSD schools. Those within this collection include Ethel I. Baker at 5717 Laurine Way, Maple School at 3301 37th Avenue, Argonaut School at 1400 Dickson Street, and Theodore Judah at 3919 McKinley Boulevard. Baker was opened in 1951, Maple in 1952, Argonaut in 1961, and Judah in 1939. Not included in the collection are images from Wilson's tenure at Strawberry Lane School (name changed to John Muir in 1962) at 5201 Strawberry Lane.

    Scope and Contents

The collection consists of four series, each representing a specific school. Series I covers Ethel I Baker; Series II covers Argonaut School; Series III covers Theodore Judah School; and Series IV covers Maple School. All images have been maintained in their original order.
