Vessel History
The Sea Foam (shown on record as Seafoam) was built in 1905, in Aberdeen (Washington?), at Lindstrom Ship Building, for owner
George Beadle. It was a wooden steam schooner of 339 gross tons, and it had a 500 horsepower compound engine installed by
Willamette Iron & Steelworks.
After two years, the Sea Foam was sold to Henry Templeman, and in 1911 it was sold again to Charles Higgins. Over the years,
there were a number of masters recorded: P. Miller (05), S. B. Lindstrom (06), C. Brunet (08).
The vessel was lost on February 23rd, 1931, at Point Arena, while enroute to San Francisco with a cargo of lumber. The crew
was rescued by a surf boat from the coast guard station.
The collection contains 34 cargo manifests dated from 1907-1910 while the Sea Foam was operating in the Mendocino Coast Line.
The manifests covered shipments from San Francisco to Mendocino
(Pictures of the wreckage can be found in California Shipwrecks, Marshall; page 137)
