    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection of 31 albumen prints from a disbound album contains images of well-known Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Jain monuments, as well as a few landscape and city views. There are views and details of temples, stupas, mosques, tombs and mausoleums, and fortified palaces. Locations represented include Agra, Benares (Varanasi), Jaipur, Madras, Ellora, Mont Abu, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.
    Two photographs bear the blindstamp: Nicholas & Co. Madras. Two additional photographs are attributed on the mount to Nicholas & Co.
    The titles of the individual photographs are taken from the nineteenth-century captions and annotations written on the mounts or versos of the photographs by an unidentified person(s) as noted. Consequently, some titles may include language now considered to be racist or biased.
