Collection contains the minutes of board meetings; minutes are missing from 1889 to 1995. Some of the volumes coincide in dates as the transitions between the governance of the elementary and high school and unified boards overlap. The collection does not contain minutes of the boards of Centerville, Cohasset, Forest Ranch, Nord, Pleasant Valley or Shasta Union school districts, all of which merged into Chico Unified.

The Chico High school district prior to unification included students from the smaller elementary districts of: Chico, Centerville, Cohasset, Forest Ranch, Nord, Pleasant Valley or Shasta Union school districts. Some of the same board members would serve on both the Chico High and Elementary boards.
