Thornton Johnson Stauffer (1903-1945) was a native of Sacramento and heir to the Florence T. Clunie estate. This collection is comprised of a small baby book completed through his first year.
Thornton Johnson "Jack" Stauffer was born on October 15, 1903, to Harry C. and Florence M. Stauffer. His parents operated a drug store a 10th and Q Streets, but divorced in 1916 due to his father's "failure to provide," and Stauffer thereafter raised by his mother. Stauffer worked as a bank clerk and later operated a game farm. Through his mother's side, Stauffer was the grand-nephew of Florence J. Clunie, and when she passed away in October 1934, he received an inheritance of over $300,000. Stauffer was married to Madge Mills until his death in April 1945 from a heart condition. He had one adopted daughter, Esther Joanne Stauffer.
