    Scope and Contents note

Papers and letters dating from 1860s to present between N.W. Blanchard and other family members. Most are between two daughters, Eunice and Sarah, and mother Ann Elizabeth, and are of a personal nature. A few deal with young Nathan's school problems and homesickness and of his elopement, which saddened the family. There are some items of a genealogical nature and family tree. News clippings chronicle family births and deaths as well as that of Admiral George Dewey. There are illustrations of the Blanchard and Weston coats of arms and family tree and biographical sketches. One letter from Eunice while she was in Europe with husband Arthur Kelsey contained a sketch from a gown she had made there. A number of family photographs exists as well as Sarah's application to and acceptance by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Bard family is mentioned frequently, and there are approximately three dozen announcements of weddings and invitations. There are some day books of N.W.B. dating from 1864 and diaries of daughter Sarah dating from 1886 to 1962. In addition to biographical material, there are a few receipts and vouchers and an estate inventory dated 1846. The collection fills four boxes. Each numbered box contains a detailed list of its contents.
