Historical Note
Founded in 1958, the Ziemeļkalifornijas latviešu biedrība (Northern California Latvian Association) has served as a focal
point in the community life of Latvians in Northern California. The association has sponsored cultural events and organized
recreational activities for young people. It sought to preserve the cause of independence for the Baltic States during the
Cold War, and after Baltic independence was renewed in 1991, the association promoted assistance to newly sovereign Latvia.
The association publishes
Ziemeļkalifornijas Apskats.

Zelta Vārtu Vēstis, the publication of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran church. Additionally, the collection contains significant materials
