Biographical / Historical

East Bay Municipal Utilities Deistrict (EBMUD) led the 1927 construction of the Pardee Dam on the Mokelumne River near Valley Springs, California. Completed in 1929, the Pardee Dam and Reservoir provide water to EBMUD's customers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Scope and Content

Photograph album containing 51 sepia, gelatin silver prints showing the construction of the Pardee Dam, near Valley Springs, California, as part of the Mokelumne River Project by Atkinson Construction Company in 1927-1929. Some photographs are labeled "Clark Photo," others are labeled "Cadenbach Photo." Bulk of photographs contain captions describing the work depicted in the photograph. Photographs document the progress of the construction from beginning to end, including the dam site prior to construction; spillway, bridge, and powerhouse construction; flooding of the Mokelumne River during construction; and aerial views of the completed Pardee Dam taken at the 1929 dedication ceremony.
