Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains statistical data collected and compiled pertaining to civic affairs, civic organizations, manufacturing establishments and their products. The bulk of the collection covers the period 1955-1980, although there are some items as early as the 1900s and as late as 1990, which appear to have been added after the collection came to Berkeley Historical Society. This collection has been arranged in three series: Series 1: Cartons 1-3: Administrative matters. Constitution and bylaws, correspondence, reports, newsletters, promotional literature, membership rosters, etc. There are a few files of the Women’s Division and of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Series 2: Cartons 4-7: Subject files on a wide variety of topics of interest to the Chamber, such as industry, government, economic development, as well as some files on more recent issues, such as rent control. In most cases committee records are filed with the topical files on the same subject. See Box 3 for some committee files, 1961-1963. Series 3: Vol. 1-2, Boxes 1-4: Materials received subsequent to the main collection, consisting of some membership lists, photographs, committee files, and files on Berkeley’s Measure O, 1994.
