    Scope and Contents

The California Farmworkers Oral History Project interviewed farm workers from California to speak about their experiences.
The project was sponsored by the California State University, Northridge Provost's Committee on Chicana/o Labor History, School of Humanities, Center for Photojournalism & Visual History and the Urban Archives Center. The oral history project was designed in conjunction with several on-campus events celebrating the role of farm workers in California history during the Fall of 1995. Interviews have been conducted over several years by Dr. Kent Kirkton, Dr. Jorge Garcia, Robert G. Marshall, Dr. Judith Marti and other members of the campus community. Draft interview transcripts have been prepared by oral history project participants with further work done by the library under a Hispanic Serving Institutions grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The collection is divided into two series: Audio Recordings (1995-2003) and Transcripts (2005). Series I, Audio Recordings, is further divided into two subseries: Digital Audio (1995-2003) and Audiocassettes (1995-2002). Some interviews are in Spanish, and not all interviews in the collection have been transcribed.
