    Biography/Administrative History

    Dan Crawford was born in Taft, California in 1923 and died in Tulelake, California in 2012. He was a farmer and an agricultural journalist. He worked for the Tulelake Reporter and created and edited the monthly magazine, Spudman, which focuses on the potato industry. He also started Craft Printers so that the magazine could be published economically. In his own words, Dan Crawford said, “I am convinced my collection of materials illustrating the industrial revolution’s effect on the potato industry in America between 1948 and 1980. During that period I recorded the development and refinement of mechanization, automation and technological methods with pictures and stories. “With his wife, Ardina Cox, he started Sunshine Travel which specialized in Agricultural tours of the world. He had a great love of photographs. The collection records the development and refinement of mechanization, automation and technological methods of potato farming through the magazine, Spudman and through his photographs.
