Biographical / Historical

Harvey Sheldon (born 1936) is a broadcaster, and music historian who specializes in the Golden Age of Pop (1930s-1960s), and Big Band swing and jazz. He founded "America's Rock Network" and began producing and hosting "Monster Rock" on Century Cable in the mid 1990s. Sheldon has collected moving image music recordings since the 1960s, and has amassed a library of diverse genres and eras.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of approximately 4,500 broadcast tapes for music videos collected by broadcaster Harvey Sheldon. The videos chiefly are of rock 'n roll bands, but reflect a variety of other genres including pop, blues, alternative, metal, and country. While the earliest videos are of Louis Jordan from the 1940s and rock bands from the 1960s and 1970s are represented, the majority of videos date from the late 1980s-1990s. The recordings consist of ¾ Inch U-matic, ¾ Inch U-matic SP, and Beta and Beta SP video tapes. The videos were originally provided by record companies or the performers, or were purchased.
The videos include both promotional videos and live performances. Many performers are represented in the collection, including Eric Clapton, The Doors, Guns N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Queen, Paul Rodgers, the Yardbirds, and The Who.
