    Arrangement note

    The materials are arranged alphabetically by name of the interviewee of each oral history. Items are described by the author, media, and year of creation. Pertinent subjects are listed at the item level. In instances where the name of the interviewee is unknown, the name of the organization is listed. Interviews with more than one person are listed under both subject names.

    Biographical/Historical note

    These oral histories were created as part of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education efforts to complete detailed histories of tobacco-control policymaking and efforts by the tobacco industry to thwart these efforts in 24 states. These interviews were designed to shed light on political activities of both sides, tobacco control programs, as well as histories of tobacco industry campaign contributions and lobbying activities. As a part of the Center for the Tobacco Control, these oral histories were funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The interviews were conducted by postdoctoral fellows and other members of the research group at the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, under the supervision of Stanton Glanz, PhD.

    Scope and Contents note

    This collection contains 150 oral histories conducted between 1999-2001 covering a variety of topics related to tobacco control, including but not limited to public health policy, anti-smoking advocacy, second hand smoke, health education programs and cost-recovery lawsuits. All of the collection is in the form of audio tapes.

    Processing Information note

    The collection was inventoried by Rene Radusky in 2013 under the supervision of Margaret Hughes. The finding aid was written by Rene Radusky and Margaret Hughes.
