    Abstract: Clippings, fliers, leaflets, correspondence, typescripts, photographs, and other material documenting individuals and organizations advocating for same-sex marriage in the United States and Canada, 1958-2012. The materials document numerous attempts to change legislation or legal status of LGBT individuals in regard to domestic partnerships, civil unions and marriage. Highlighted in this collection are the advocacy campaign from the Hawaii Equal Rights Marriage Project; the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling legally recognizing same-sex marriage in the state in 2004; and the California Proposition 8 in 2008.

    This collection was originally part of the ONE Subject Files Collection, Coll2012-001, to which numerous and sometimes anonymous donors contributed. Materials in this collection were compiled from donors including Lee Mentley, Michael Palmer, Rick Mechtly, and Robert Manners. Methods and dates of acquisition unknown.
