Acquisition Information

The collection was donated by San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park employee Erik Olson in 2000 and was formally
accessioned into the Park's collection in 2002. The photographs were given to Olson by a volunteer who salvaged them from
a dumpster at the Longshoremen's Union Hall in San Francisco, California.
Historical or Biographical Note
Thomas "Tom" George King Jr. was born in Seattle, Washington. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945, King opened his
own photography business in San Francisco, California. He had residences in both San Francisco and Capitola, California. He
was married to Joan Marin King.

The Tom King photographs, circa 1955-1970, (SAFR 23853, P02-015) are comprised mainly of photographs of cargo handling and
fishing activities, likely on the waterfront of San Francisco, California. The collection has been processed to the Collection

Contains photographs of longshoremen, cargo, and fishermen, likely in San Francisco, California, circa 1955-1970. There are
11 black-and-white photographic prints.

- 01. Two men baiting hooks on the deck of a fishing boat, before 1964. View as seen from the dock off the starboard stern.
The man on the left is identified as Dagrande and the man on the right is identified as Ballonte. One black-and-white photographic
print, 8 x 7.75 in., mounted on a 14 x 17 in. board. "SFPA King Photo" is handwritten on the verso. SFPA possibly refers to

- 03. View inside an office of a man assisting another man at a service window, before 1964. The man inside the office is standing
at the window and looking down at a clipboard while the man on the other side of the window looks in. There are clipboards
hanging on the wall. They are labled Nite Hold, Day Hold, Nite Dock, Day Dock, Nite Winch Drs , and Day Winch Drs. The man
is apparently looking at the Nite Dock clipboard, since it is missing from the wall. One black-and-white photographic print,

Ed Brady." There is a large tear near the center of the print and a small tear on the bottom edge, left. Corners are damaged
and there is a crease at the center of the left edge.
