Languages: English .

Scope and Content of Collection

Photographs (primarily color slides) and films of and by Neil Marshall, who was a geologist who worked at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, as a member of Francis P. Shepard's research group. The images and films document people and research activity at the Institution, including: trips to Cabo San Lucas, diving and divers in the 1950s and 1960s, Glomar Challenger, the R/V Thomas Washington, Carmarsel Expedition, Vermilion Sea Expedition, Francis P. Shepard, onboard expedition work with colleagues, and many snapshots of Marshall himself.
The slides are arranged in the approximate order in which they were obtained from Marshall, following a numbering system that does not correspond to date or topic. Gaps in the number sequence indicate images that were removed due to having little research value (such as duplicates, or tourist-type images from expeditions). Some of the films were unlabeled when they were acquired by the Library, and their content is unknown.
