    Biographical / Historical

    Robert Southey (1774-1843) was an English Romantic poet and Poet Laureate from 1813 till his death in 1843. Southey was friends with John Rickman (1771-1840) who was an English government official and statistician.

    Scope and Contents

    A collection of 1,278 items from 1798 to 1839, it consists of the correspondence between John Rickman and Robert Southey during their 41-year friendship. Box 16 also contains a few letters by other authors including four by James Burney, English Naval officier, and two by George Dyer, English classicist, poet and editor.
