    Biographical / Historical

The Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) is a five- state grassroots organization that works to increase awareness of pesticide use and its alternatives. This collection primarily contains the records of NCAP activities in Oregon and the activities of its California branch (California Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (CCAP)) in Siskiyou County, California. Also included are documents from its affiliate groups, such as Siskiyou Citizens Against Toxic Sprays, Salmon River Concerned Citizens, and People for Healthy Forests.
The NCAP and CCAP worked to increase public awareness of the use and aerial application of pesticides, particularly in forestland, and to challenge federal and local spraying programs through petitions, grassroots organizing, and legal actions. These included court cases against the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Department of Agriculture, the US Forest Service, and the CA Department of Food and Agriculture.
