Background
William Soesbe Harbert (1842-1919) was an American lawyer, judge, philanthropist, and Civil War soldier. He enlisted in the
85th Indiana Regiment in 1862 at the rank of Sergeant. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1867.
He was married to Elizabeth Boynton Harbert, an author and lecturer. They had three children: Arthur Boynton, Corinne Boynton,
and Elizabeth Harbert Rowe. The Harberts relocated to Pasadena, California later in their lives. William Harbert died in Pasadena
in 1919.
