Abstract: The Blair Rixon Collection consists of personal papers, photo albums, newspaper clippings, plaques and personal mementos of
W. Blair Rixon and his wife. Also in the collection is a diploma for the graduation of Blair’s father, Albert W. Rixon, from
the San Francisco Commercial School in 1892.

Biography/Administrative History
Born in San Francisco in 1908, Rixon briefly served as a deputy district attorney for Contra Costa County in the 1940s, and
then in 1948 became a Brentwood City Court Judge and later a Municipal Court Judge in Brentwood and Pittsburg. He retired
in 1974. Among his personal letters stored in Box #3 is correspondence from the 1950s between Rixon and his childhood friend
Morey Amsterdam, who later gained fame for his role on the Dick Van Dyke television show. Rixon and Amsterdam were schoolmates
at the Pacific Heights School in San Francisco.
Scope and Content of Collection
Box 1: Loose undated photographs, postcards newspaper clippings from 1910, All Saint’s Church (San Francisco) newsletter,
family photo albums from the 1970s, a photo album from the Gentlemen’s Cross Country Club (a hiking club) from 1904-06, and
a book of poems.
Box 2: Plaques for personal and professional recognition, photographs, small mementos and a courtroom gavel.
Box 3: File folders with personal papers, club information, retirement correspondence, and the correspondence with Morey Amsterdam.
Box 4: Daybooks, calendar books, correspondence, loose newspaper clippings from the 1940s and 1950s.
Box 5: File folders with personal papers and information on the history of Brentwood and eastern Contra Costa County, church
information and the county Board of Education.
Box 6: Loose mementos, tour books, travel pamphlets, local historic site pamphlets, and folders with clippings about the John
Marsh House in Brentwood from the 1970s and 1980s.
Box 7: Plaques, frames and certificates.
The diploma marking the graduation of Blair’s father, Albert W. Rixon, is rolled up and stored on the shelf in between Box
1 and Box 2.
