    Scope and Content

    35 mm color slides, dating, roughly, from 1969 through the 1990s, gathered by the California Department of Conservation, documenting the history of offshore oil and gas islands and platforms, as well as oil spills and seeps off the Central Coast and Santa Barbara Channel region of California.
    The collection includes slides of the Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969, as well as documentation of natural oil and gas seep activity offshore. The collection also contains slides of onshore oil and gas activity, including pipelines, as well as harbors, drills and drillships, oil workers and engineers in various locations, and charts, and maps.
    In addition to the 35 mm slides, the collection contains an aerial surveillance book with charts and photographic prints, providing a comprehensive catalog of offshore oil and gas platforms.

    Arrangement

    These slides (following original order) have been organized according to the following series: District 1: Southern Area, District 2: Northern Area, and District 3: Central Area.
    Supplied series include: Charts Maps and Graphs, Offshore Aerial Surveillance Flight Book, and Miscellaneous.
