    Biography/Administrative History

    William Penn Mott, Jr. (1909-1992) was Director of California State Department of Parks and Recreation from 1967 to 1975. He went on to become director of the United States National Park Service from 1985 to 1989.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Three 4 x 6 inch handwritten speaking cards prepared by William Penn Mott, Jr. relating to a talk he gave on the early history of the California State Railroad Museum. Mr. Mott was director of California State Parks when the Pacific Coast Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society donated several pieces of full-size railroad equipment. The talk may have been delivered at a February 25, 1971 Sacramento Trust for Historic Preservation meeting to honor Mr. Mott, held aboard CSRM's "The Gold Coast." Includes leather carrying case.
