Abstract: This collection is comprised of
newspaper clippings documenting Southeast Asian communities, primarily Hmong, Lao, and
Cambodian, in the Fresno and Tulare County areas of Central California. Clippings were
collected by longtime Tulare resident Letha Cooke for approximately 30 years and contain
articles from local publications
The Fresno Bee and
Visalia Times-Delta. A small amount of newsletters and ephemera
from local religious and refugee organizations are also included. While select clippings
were organized by Cooke into topical areas, the bulk has no discernable arrangement. Topics
include healthcare, food, cultural activities, political issues, and education.
