Abstract: The Green Street Theater (631 Green Street) was originally a live theater and then cinema before going dark. The theater was
razed in 1955 to make room for a parking lot. The collection consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, a scrapbook,
sheet music, and a souvenir program.
Physical Location: The collection is stored onsite.

The collection is available for use during San Francisco History Center hours, with photographs available during Photo Desk
hours. Collections that are stored offsite should be requested 48 hours in advance.
Publication Rights
All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission
for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.

Administrative History
The Green Street Theater (631 Green Street) was built in 1865 and destroyed in the 1906 Earthquake. The theater was immediately
rebuilt and served off and on as a live theater or cinema until it was razed in 1955 to make room for a parking lot for the
neighboring Bank of America. In 1929 the show "Easy for Zee Zee" played for a record number of weeks and ended after several
murders including the death of the shows leading man.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, a scrapbook (containing newspaper clippings about "Easy for
Zee Zee" and a few burlesque images), sheet music for "Zee Zee", and a souvenir program for "Easy for Zee Zee".
