Abstract: Herbert F. Ricard was a local historian and writer. He authored MVC quarterly Volume 17, Issue 2 "Place Names of Ventura County"
(1972-73). This collection contains Ricard's research and notes, including his notes on place names within the county that
he used to write the journal on the topic.

Herbert F. Ricard was a local historian and writer. He authored MVC quarterly Volume 17, Issue 2 "Place Names of Ventura County"

This box contains: a scrapbook with newspaper clippings and ephemera highlighting the political life of George A. Newell,
Jr., mayor of Ventura in the 1930s, 1930-1940; a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings regarding various county issues
with an index; a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings and ephemera, largely of Ojai, collected by Fannie A. Ayers, circa
1897–1946; two ledgers of a handwritten account in Spanish of Mexican history by Juan E. Pico, circa 1881; a notebook of Ricard's
notes for his research on Ventura County placenames, undated; a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of social events and community
announcements, 1890–1913; a binder of newspaper clippings mostly related to Hueneme and Oxnard, 1930-1940; a scrapbook of
newspaper clippings on the 2nd Annual Ventura Street Fair, circa 1902; and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings from local papers,
circa 1890s.

This box contains Herbert Ricard's notes and research. This includes notes from his research on placenames within Ventura
County, correspondence related to local history, photographs and clippings related to local councils, clipping and notes on
the Ventura Street Fair of 1902, index cards with placenames, and a small notebook with notes on placenames.
