Abstract: This collection contains records from the women’s percussion band, Sistah Boom from 1987 to 2001. It includes awards and certificates;
calendars; correspondence; financial records; event flyers, programs and mass mailings; grant materials from the Horizon Foundation
and other organizations; instrument inventories; information related to the group’s status as a sponsored project of the San
Francisco Women’s Building; meeting minutes; membership records; music; news clippings; publicity materials; and retreat and
workshop materials.

Scope and Content of Collection
This collection contains records from the women’s percussion band, Sistah Boom from 1987 to 2001. Created by Carolyn Brandy
in 1982, Sistah Boom plays parades, rallies and socially conscious events and is active in support of racial, gender and social
justice. The collection includes awards and certificates; calendars; correspondence; financial records; event flyers, programs
and mass mailings; grant materials from the Horizon Foundation and other organizations; instrument inventories; information
related to the group’s status as a sponsored project of the San Francisco Women’s Building; meeting minutes; membership records;
music; news clippings; publicity materials; and retreat and workshop materials. There is also a tom drum used by members of
the group. The bulk of the material was received in binders and kept in their original order; other records were arranged
according to their organizational function or subject matter.
