Scope and Content

Promotional handbill mailers, chiefly for concerts held at the Avalon Ballroom and Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. Many prints are reproductions of larger promotional posters designed by prominent Bay Area psychedelic poster artists of the late 1960s and early 1970s, including Stanley Mouse, Victor Moscoso, Alton Kelley, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, Tea Lautrec, David Singer, Bonnie MacLean, R. Tuten, Robert Fried, and Greg Irons. Other artists represented include Chris Johnson, George Hunter, Neon Park, Ws. Henry, John Thompson, Bob Shnepf, David Smith, Paul Kagan, Stark, Doltie, Peter Bailey, Lee Conklin, Weisser, Sätty, Rehbock/Wiese, Tracy-Yates, Nicholas Kouninos, Patrick Lofthouse, and Jack Hatfield. Most of the artwork was commissioned by promoters Bill Graham (Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland) and Family Dog (Avalon Ballroom). Collection also includes a few larger format fliers, and handbills for other venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. Concert performers are listed in finding aid.
