Abstract: The San Fernando Valley Oral History
Project is an effort to capture the history and character of the San Fernando Valley as it
has evolved socially, politically, economically, and culturally over the course of its
history. Selected topics include agriculture, aviation, banks and banking, chambers of
commerce, education, historical sites and buildings, housing and architecture, journalism,
law enforcement, livestock, libraries, natural history, parks, pioneer life, transportation,
the moving picture industry, ranching, religion, and water issues.

Scope and Contents
The San Fernando Valley Oral History Project is an effort to capture the history and
character of the San Fernando Valley as it has evolved socially, politically, economically,
and culturally over the course of its history. Selected topics include agriculture,
aviation, banks and banking, chambers of commerce, education, historical sites and
buildings, housing and architecture, journalism, law enforcement, livestock, libraries,
natural history, parks, pioneer life, transportation, the moving picture industry, ranching,
religion, and water issues.
The collection is divided into two series,
Audio Recordings
(1976-2003) and
Transcripts (1985-2003). Series I,
Audio Recordings, is further divided into two subseries:
Digital Audio (1977-1987) and
Audiocassettes (1976-2003).
