from 1966 to 1978. Materials include planning documents, correspondence, reports,

Background
Mile Square Regional Park is located in Fountain Valley, California. The park was formed
from land purchased by the U.S. Navy in 1942 for the Mile Square Naval Outer Landing Field.
In March 1967, Orange County entered into a long-term lease with the Navy for the perimeter
area of the site, allowing the county to develop the area for a regional park. Military
operations in the center airfield area ended in 1974. The park is operated by Orange County
Parks.
