    Abstract: The collection contains materials related to author Wendell Rickett's writing and activism. Ricketts was born on Wake Island, an atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and raised in small towns on O’ahu, Hawai’i. His writings about working class queers, politics, education, literature, the performing and visual arts, lesbian and gay family and legal issues, and responses to AIDS in the arts and media have appeared in a variety of publications.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection contains materials related to author Wendell Rickett's writing and activism. Ricketts was born on Wake Island, an atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and raised in small towns on O’ahu, Hawai’i. His writings about working class queers, politics, education, literature, the performing and visual arts, lesbian and gay family and legal issues, and responses to AIDS in the arts and media have appeared in a variety of publications. Ricketts' work includes “Lesbians and Gay Men as Foster Parents: A Manual for Policy Makers" and “Everything I Have Is Blue: Short Fiction by Working-Class Men about More-or-Less Gay Life,” which he edited. The collection includes correspondence on a variety of subjects, including Ricketts' roles as guest editor for a variety of publications, such as the Social Work and Love issue of "The Journal of Social Work and Human Sexuality," and the book, "Anal Pleasure and Health," circa 1980-1985; draft typescripts of his policy manual (1989-1990); subject files on sex and military suitability, the 1992 Republican Convention, the 1988 Lavender Law Conference, lesbian and gay youth, juvenile prostitution, and the Committee on Human Sexuality of the Episcopal Church in Hawaii.
